ISC Released the First China Internet Service Standard

On June 15, 2011, Internet Society of China (ISC) convened the news conference to announce the publication of China’s first Internet service standard, named the “Statistical Indicators for Internet Services----Part 1: Basic Metrics of Traffics” (hereafter referred to as “Standard”), the drafting of which was organized by ISC.
Ms. DAI Xiaohui, the Associate Counsel, Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, attended the news conference and delivered a speech. She said that along with the rapid growth of Internet industry and Internet economy, there are higher requirements on how to realize Internet scientific development and provide standardized services. The formulation of industrial standards should keep pace with industry development, which is an inevitable trend with the expectations of all walks of life. As the first Internet industry service standard in China, it is of great significance that an official traffic statistics standard could be referenced, which helps to guiding the statistics and measures on site traffic and the application of relevant indicators within Internet industry in China.
Mr. GAO Xinmin, the Vice President of ISC introduced that at the end of 2008, ISC established Special Work Group on Website Traffic Indicators and initiated relevant research and standard drafting work. With two years’ efforts, the formulation of the first part of Indicators of Internet Service Statistics has been completed and then released by MIIT at the end of 2010. In the first part of the Standard, five basic indicators of Internet website traffic have been clearly defined, including number of independent IP address, number of unique visitors, page views, visits and length of visit.
The Special Work Group will continuously promote the publicity and training of the basic traffic indicators and follow up with the research and formulation of other Internet service statistics indicators. According to the Work Group, the basic indicators of online video business is in the process of research and formulation.
The drafting and release of the Standard gained greatly supports from China Communication Standards Association.
