2014 China 4G Development and Application Conference Held in Beijing

On April 20, Internet Society of China (ISC), China National Network Information Center (CNNIC) and the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) jointly hosted the 2014 China 4G Development and Application Conference in Beijing on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of China Full Function Access to Internet.
Taking “4G Network—Initiating a new era in China” as the theme, this conference gave a full view on 4G network in two parts, one is developing opportunity for China in 4G era and the other is industry innovation. The leaders of government authorities, experts, representatives of telecom operators and enterprises attended the conference and had a heated discussion on 4G issues, including national 4G policy, global 4G developing status, information consumption in 4G era as well as technique and application innovation initiated by 4G network.
Mr. Liu Jie, the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Telecommunication Administration, pointed out that MIIT has granted 4G licenses to the three telecom operators, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. At the current stage, these three operators are positively working on 4G network construction. He said that the development of 4G network can not only meet the demands of the mobile Internet users, but also accelerate mobile Internet application process, promote production and e-commerce informatization and generate new business mode and service model.
Mr. Wu Hequan, the President of ISC and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), gave a authoritative report entitled The Ongoing 4G Network from two aspects, that is, process from PC Internet to mobile Internet and opportunities and challenges in mobile Internet development. In the report, it is mentioned that Internet has developed from PC Internet to mobile Internet and the grant of 4G license would promote Internet development. As the new development stage, mobile Internet converged with broadband, cloud computing, big data and Internet of Things, lifting a new wave of informatization. It is one significant symbol of the era of Big Data, Intelligenzation, Mobile Internet and Cloud Computing and an important pillar for innovation platform in the future.
Ms. Zhang Jing, the Vice President of ChinaLabs, gave a report entitled Survey of Subscribers’ Focus of Attention in 4G Era. Conducting data analysis from subscribers’ focus of attention, this survey showed that 83.6% of the subscribers knew about 4G network and 75.9% intended to upgrade to 4G network in two years. There are 71.5% and 68.8% of the subscribers expected that the speed could be faster and the signal could be broader and more stable separately. And 69.4% of the subscribers expected the tone and video quality of 4G terminal could be improved.
In the keynote speech section, the experts and scholars, including Mr. He Baohong, the Director of MIIT Telecommunication Institute Internet Center, Mr. Jiang Qiping, the Secretary-General of Center for Informatization Study of CASS, Mr. Zeng Jianqiu, the Director of Information Economic Competitiveness Research Center of Beijing University of Postal and Telecommunications (BUPT), and Mr. Lv Benfu, the Deputy Director of Postgraduate School Innovation Research Center of CAS, gave a outlook of mobile Internet in 4G network era from the aspects of change of Internet terminal, operating system, technique innovation and operations management.
