The 12th China Internet Conference Convened in Beijing

Hosted by Internet Society of China (ISC), the 12th China Internet Conference (CIC) was convened in Beijing on August 13, 2013. The theme of the 12th CIC was “Co-building Sound Ecosystem and Providing Better Internet Services”.
Mr. WU Hequan, the President of ISC, delivered the welcoming speech. He said that China Internet industry is experiencing the innovative development: “Broadband China” strategy continuously drove forward, accelerating China’s Internet infrastructure construction; mobile Internet witnessed booming development, remodeling industry pattern; the application of big data was under in-depth exploration, continuously yielding new service pattern and business mode; the construction of cloud computing eco-system improved and apps met more opportunities; information consumption market expanded rapidly, generating new economy growth points. Mr. WU pointed out that the Internet’s penetration into economy and society accelerated at the current stage, becoming a much more important force to drive economy and society development. Meantime, traditional economy closely combined with Internet, forming an open, cooperative and vertically convergent Internet eco-system.
Mr. SHANG Bing, the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), attended the opening ceremony and gave a keynote report on Internet development. He said that in recent years, China’s Internet industry manifested some new features along with the rapid development of mobile Internet, big data, cloud computing and Internet of Things. Mobile Internet becomes increasingly popularized, network applications are more diversified, Internet drives information consumption of robust growth, and the next generation Internet construction makes remarkable progress. MIIT will focus on the overall situation of economy structure reconstruction and transition, continuously promote information consumption and drive economy and society development. Also, MIIT will make efforts on strengthening industry management and ensuring network information security, creating sound outer environment for the enterprises. Mr. SHANG proposed three comments on Internet development. Firstly, it is necessary to further construct information infrastructure and accelerate Internet technology innovation and application. Secondly, market oversight and industry self-regulation should be strengthened, so as to build a harmony and healthy Internet eco-system. Thirdly, the attentions should be focused on guaranteeing Internet and information security and providing better services.
Mr. PENG Bo, the Deputy Director of State Internet Information Office gave a report on mobile Internet development opportunities. He said that the rapid development of China’s economy and society created great opportunities for Internet. Since the last year, mobile Internet experienced all-round development, driving economy and society of unprecedented depth and width and improving people’s daily life. Mr. PENG stressed that the important role of mobile Internet in economy and society should be recognized. Therefore, great efforts should be made in establishing and managing mobile Internet.
Mr. WU Hequan, the President of ISC, Mr. DONG Baoqing, the Deputy Director of MIIT Information Promotion Department and Mr. YU Yongfu, the CEO of UCWeb and Vice President of ISC jointly initiated “Interconnected Chinese Dream” and “20 Anniversary of China’s Full Function Access to Internet” event.
Lasting three days, this session of CIC included 18 keynote forums, covering many specific fields from mobile Internet, e-commerce, Internet finance to cloud computing and Internet of Things etc. During this session of CIC, attentions have been attached to the eco-system construction, the penetration and convergence of Internet and traditional industries, and the expansion of Internet industrial chain. Besides, this session of CIC focused on the topics that closely related Netizens’ daily life, such as how could Internet provide better services for the Netizens and improve their life.
